We are in the midst of Elul, the month of preparation before the New Year. We have so many great things and gifts for which we express our gratitude. But we also need to make things better, and atone for our mistakes. Atonement is an idea that may be hard to swallow. The Mishnah teaches: “for transgressions against God, the Day of Atonement atones, but for transgressions of one person against another, the Day of Atonement does not atone until they have made peace with one another.” So if we have relationships that need mending, this is the time to move forward. Shanah tovah!
