Shavuot and the Ten Commandments

We will soon be celebrating the giving of the Torah, the holiday of Shavuot. From the words of Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh of Ger, who wrote the Sefat Emet, we learn: for so it is said, “Face to face did God speak…” for the whole of creation was directed upward toward the root of its vitality, and when God said, “I am the Lord your God,” every single particle of creation thought it was to itself that the divine word was addressed.” How do we moderns understand that God addressed us at Sinai, and how do we interpret the idea that the Decalogue truly speaks to us today, as it did to our Jewish people three thousand years ago? This is one of the major questions to consider as we prepare for the Shavuot holiday. Join us for our study and celebration on Saturday evening, May 26th and learn more about these essential thoughts.
